Increase in Number of Cases - Plus 1

As of Tuesday 7 April 2020, Fiji has 15 confirmed cases of COVID-19. The newest addition is a 33 year old gentleman, husband of an existing patient from Lautoka –– the Zumba classmate of patient number one.

All of the patients remain in stable condition. 

Person of Interest

The gentleman from Lautoka, considered to be “Person of Interest” has been has been cleared as his tests came back negative.

Lautoka Lockdown Fully Lifted

All of the Lautoka confined area now has the freedom to move into and out of the area, including the Kashmir area. Consequently, this does not call for celebrations or playing loose with rules.

However, the Hon. Prime Minister called upon the people of Lautoka to continue with their act of being responsible and keep the area safe and healthy.


Simultaneous Crisis - TC Harold and COVID-19

TC Harold, a Category 5 cyclone, will enter Fijian waters tomorrow, hence expected strong winds and heavy rains in the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Viti Levu, Kadavu, the Lomaiviti Group and the Southern Lau Group. 

The respective authorities have been making necessary arrangements to allow for both evacuation due to TC Harold and isolation due to COVID-19. All evacuation centers will also be sanitised, and regularly monitored to ensure that they are not filled beyond capacity.


Hon. Prime Minister’s message to the Nation remains as:

“As we combat these two life-threatening crises, it’s vital that every Fijian do exactly what they are told to do by authorities. These directives are not voluntary and require adherence at once, for your safety and the safety of those around you”.


Chartered Flight

On Saturday 4 April 2020, Fiji Airways flew its A350 to Salt Lake City, carrying 300 missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and also brought back 11 Fijians. These people shall observe mandatory two-week quarantine.
